Center for Sustainable Society (tentative)
【Overview】
To solve the unprecedented challenges facing our planet and humanity – such as global warming,
the depletion of energy and natural resources, and food and water shortages – there is an urgent need for
cutting-edge technological development and human resource development based on a comprehensive,
interdisciplinary perspective that transcends traditional academic boundaries.
The Center for Sustainable Society was established in April 2025 through the integration of the Research Center for
Social Infrastructures – which focuses on research into infrastructure longevity and maintenance,
centered on the Michimori Unit that trains engineers capable of inspecting and diagnosing
infrastructure – and the Asian Environmental Resilience Research Center, an interdisciplinary research
organization that conducts research and education on multidimensional environmental resilience through the fusion of social and natural sciences.
【Objectives of the Center for Sustainable Society】
The Center aims to promote research that transcends conventional frameworks regarding social infrastructure,
disaster mitigation, urban development, and environmental changes caused by human activities – all of which
contribute to the creation of a sustainable society – as well as to foster talent in related fields and contribute to society.
